Why an MBA at IUJ? With almost 50 nationalities gathering on the IUJ campus, you learn to communicate to the world. It is not about talking a common language, but respecting the culture and the underlying meaning behind the language. I find the international element of IUJ an essential feature that an MBA program should have, since countries are working more closely with each other than years ago. Many times at IUJ I have found myself challenged, where the common sense I developed as I grew up is not shared by my friends, and we have to examine what is uncommon about "common sense" to iron out cultural differences. This unique experience, which could not be found anywhere but here at IUJ, acts as a key to unlock the gateway to knowledge, and serves as a solid foundation for the future development of the world's economy.
Teaching Methods IUJ uses lectures, the case method, and project work as its three main teaching methods. Students formally meet for three hours per week for each course, where professors usually apportion half the time for lecture--which could be more like an interactive session (depending on the nature of the subject) with a range of inputs from different industries and different parts of the world. The second half of the class is usually spent in case studies, where project groups present their analyses and recommendations in class.
There are also many guest speakers each week who come all the way to the IUJ campus and talk about their experiences. Many of these guest speakers include CEOs from famous companies and university professors from different countries.
Life at IUJ Besides the rigorous academic program, many students actively participate in non-classroom activities year-round so to bond with different nationalities, and to enhance their experiences in their 21-month stay in IUJ. Sports examples include: soccer, tennis, swimming, basketball, cricket, skiing/snowboarding, kendo, aikido, dancing, kickboxing, table tennis etc. Local culture examples include: the naked man festival, home-stay programs, rice harvesting experiences, sake brewery visits, onsen trips, primary school visits, sightseeing etc. Other examples include: international business plan competitions, the Japanese speech contest for international students, invitations to the St. Gallen Symposium, presentations at international graduate student conferences, and many more!
